Ozzy Osbourne, el inolvidable vocalista de Black Sabbath, murió este martes a los 76 años, “rodeado de amor”, según confirmó su familia en un comunicado.
“Con más tristeza de la que las palabras pueden expresar, tenemos que informar que nuestro querido Ozzy Osbourne falleció esta mañana. Estaba con su familia y rodeado de amor. Pedimos que se respete la privacidad de nuestra familia en este momento”, señala el texto.
En 2020, Osbourne había revelado que padecía Parkinson, luego de una dura caída que lo afectó seriamente. Su imagen irreverente y su vida cargada de excesos lo convirtieron en una figura polémica: desde sus atuendos negros hasta el escándalo por morder la cabeza de un murciélago en pleno show, siempre estuvo en el ojo de la tormenta. Pero también mostró su lado más humano en el reality familiar “The Osbournes”, donde se reveló como un padre torpe pero entrañable.
El álbum debut de Black Sabbath (1969), considerado por muchos como el nacimiento mismo del heavy metal, fue un golpe de realidad sonora en plena era hippie. Con una portada inquietante y canciones cargadas de oscuridad, marcó un antes y un después en el rock.
El segundo disco de la banda, “Paranoid”, incluyó himnos inmortales como “War Pigs», «Iron Man» y «Fairies Wear Boots», convirtiéndose en uno de los discos más influyentes del género. Aunque el tema “Paranoid” apenas alcanzó el puesto 61 del Hot 100 de Billboard, se convirtió en la canción emblema del grupo.
En palabras de Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), publicadas en Rolling Stone:
“Black Sabbath son los Beatles del heavy metal. Cualquiera que sea serio sobre el metal te dirá que todo se reduce a Sabbath”.
La muerte de Osbourne se produce apenas 16 días después de una histórica reunión con los miembros de Black Sabbath en el estadio del Aston Villa, en su natal Birmingham, donde también estuvieron presentes bandas como Guns N’ Roses y Metallica.
Ese día, Osbourne anunció que no planeaba volver a presentarse en vivo, aunque dejó abierta la posibilidad de seguir grabando en estudio.
