El cantante Ricardo Belfi presenta su primer trabajo discográfico, una serie de tangos elegidos desde la memoria y el corazón. A los 68 años, tras una vida en el comercio exterior, decidió profesionalizar su pasión por la música. En diálogo con Pogo de Rock, habla de su infancia tanguera, el impulso de su hija, la importancia de la comunidad y el legado emocional de animarse a empezar.

A los 68 años, Ricardo Belfi no busca fama ni escenarios multitudinarios: busca emoción. Tras jubilarse, se mudó a Exaltación de la Cruz y, por impulso de su hija, se anotó en un taller municipal de canto. Lo que comenzó como un pasatiempo, terminó abriéndole la puerta a una nueva vida: clases, grabaciones, un primer EP (Nunca es tarde) y, sobre todo, una comunidad.
—¿Cómo fue ese primer paso, ese clic para animarte?
“La primera decisión la tomé por un flyer que me mandó mi hija. Me dijo: ‘¿Por qué no te anotás, papá?’. Yo acababa de jubilarme y tenía tiempo. Me encantó el taller, me encantó la gente. Fue una manera de socializar, de sentirme parte. Después empecé a buscar una profesora, encontré a Macu Spinelli en Pilar y ella fue quien me impulsó a grabar. Me dijo: ‘Hacelo, grabá, que nunca sabés lo que puede pasar’. Y así fue”.
Ese “así fue” resume una historia de decisiones tomadas con intuición. Su segundo EP, que se llamará Haciéndome el destino, tiene un título que condensa su filosofía. “Todo lo que hice en mi vida lo decidí solo —cuenta—. Me crié con mi mamá desde los 16 años, cuando perdí a mi papá. Y fui haciéndome el destino con lo que tenía, a veces bien, a veces mal, pero siempre con decisión”.
El tango como herencia
Hijo de un padre tanguero —“fanático de Morán y Marino”—, Ricardo creció entre bandoneones, guitarras y reuniones familiares en las que todos cantaban. Esa raíz se volvió brújula.
—¿Cómo elegiste los tangos que grabaste?
“Cada tema lo elegí porque me llegaba. Algunos por lo que significaban para mi viejo, otros porque me marcaron en la infancia. Pasional, por ejemplo, porque él era fanático de Morán. Vieja Viola porque escuchábamos a Marino todo el tiempo. Cada canción tiene algo de mi historia. El tango tiene eso: en algún momento de la vida, alguna letra te atraviesa”.
En su casa siempre hubo música y voces. “Mi familia era italiana, numerosa, todos tocaban algo. De chico escuché miles de tangos, y aunque después la vida me llevó por otros caminos, eso quedó adentro. El tango es memoria viva”.
La vocación tardía y el legado
Belfi habla con serenidad, como quien ya no mide los sueños por resultados. “Lo hice como un regalo para mí —dice—. No buscaba vivir de esto ni hacer carrera. Quería dejar algo para mis hijos, una enseñanza: que los sueños no tienen fecha de vencimiento”.
—¿Qué te dicen tus hijos al verte cantar profesionalmente?
“Están felices. Me acompañan a todos lados. Y además sigo en el taller, donde con un grupo de compañeros —los Cantantes Solidarios— vamos a cantar a geriátricos, hospitales y colegios. Eso te llena el alma. Salís más feliz que la gente a la que fuiste a alegrar. Es impresionante”.
Su historia inspira no solo por lo artístico, sino por el sentido de comunidad que transmite. “Nadie se salva solo —dice—. Si no hacés las cosas en comunidad, no existe. Yo recibí mucho y sentí que tenía que devolver algo. Cantar para los demás es mi manera de agradecer”.
El tango, entre técnica y emoción
Formado con paciencia y respeto por el género, Belfi estudió técnica vocal con Spinelli y tomó cursos de historia del tango e interpretación con Patricia Barone.
—¿Te resultó difícil incorporar la técnica a algo tan emocional?
“Al principio, sí. El tango es complejo, no solo por la técnica sino por el decir. Pero cuando te apasiona, no lo sentís como esfuerzo. Macu me insistió: ‘Hacelo con sentimiento, pero también con forma’. Y así fue. Tratamos de hacer algo bien presentado, respetando la tradición”.
Su respeto por los grandes es evidente. Habla con devoción de Morán, Marino, Goyeneche y Rubén Juárez, a quien vio ensayar en los años del mítico Café Homero, cuando su padre lo llevaba a los shows. “Ver a Rubén hacer variaciones con el bandoneón era impresionante. Tenía una potencia escénica increíble. Y Goyeneche… ese fraseo, ese decir único. El tango tiene esa mística: te llega al alma”.

Aún trabaja en su profesión original, pero mantiene un perfil bajo. “Es como si tuviera dos vidas —se ríe—. En el trabajo pocos saben que canto. No lo oculto, pero tampoco lo anuncio. En algún momento lo descubrirán por las redes, y está bien así”.
—¿Te reconocés más como cantante o como aprendiz?
“Como aprendiz siempre. Estoy descubriendo cosas nuevas todos los días. Tengo 68 años y todavía siento curiosidad, ganas de aprender, de probar. Creo que mientras eso exista, uno está vivo”.
Futuro y mensaje
Belfi proyecta el lanzamiento de Haciéndome el destino para noviembre y ya sueña con escribir su primer tango propio. “Mi profesora me insiste: tenés historias, tenés que sentarte a escribir. Tal vez lo haga. Viví mucho, tengo algo para contar”.
—¿Qué te gustaría que quede de este camino?
“Que alguien vea que se puede. Que nunca es tarde. Que si uno tiene un sueño, por más chico que parezca, vale la pena intentarlo. A veces no hay que decirlo: hay que hacerlo. Ese es mi mensaje”.
