De Aston al mundo: los orígenes del mito
Nacido como John Michael Osbourne el 3 de diciembre de 1948 en Aston, Birmingham, creció en un entorno obrero y dejó la escuela a los 15 años. Pasó por varios oficios hasta que, junto a sus amigos Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler y Bill Ward, formó en 1968 la banda que cambiaría la historia del rock: Black Sabbath.
«Inventamos algo que no sabíamos que iba a ser tan grande«, solía decir Ozzy sobre el nacimiento del heavy metal, con riffs densos, letras oscuras y una actitud desafiante que marcó época.
Con himnos como «Paranoid», «War Pigs» e «Iron Man», Sabbath se convirtió en un ícono del rock duro, vendiendo más de 70 millones de discos. En escena, Osbourne desarrolló un personaje sombrío, provocador y magnético. Uno de los momentos más recordados fue cuando mordió la cabeza de un murciélago en pleno show en 1982. “Pensé que era de goma”, confesó más tarde. Tuvo que ser tratado contra la rabia.
Carrera solista: el rugido no se detuvo
En 1979, Ozzy fue expulsado de Black Sabbath debido a tensiones internas y a sus adicciones. Pero lejos de hundirse, lanzó su carrera solista con el disco «Blizzard of Ozz» (1980), que incluía clásicos como «Crazy Train» y «Mr. Crowley». “Me habían dado por muerto, así que me propuse demostrar que estaban equivocados”, dijo alguna vez.
Le siguieron discos que definieron el género como «Bark at the Moon» (1983), «No Rest For The Wicked» (1988) y «No More Tears» (1991). Con su melena negra, sus gafas oscuras y esa voz rasgada, se consolidó como un símbolo absoluto del heavy metal.
En los años noventa, junto a su esposa y mánager Sharon Osbourne, creó el festival Ozzfest, que se convirtió en una plataforma clave para bandas de metal en Estados Unidos y Europa.
Más allá del escenario: TV, familia y enfermedad
Entre 2002 y 2005, Ozzy protagonizó el reality show «The Osbournes», que mostraba su vida cotidiana en Los Ángeles con Sharon y sus hijos Jack y Kelly. El programa fue un éxito rotundo y lo transformó en una figura de la cultura pop.
En 2019, reveló que había sido diagnosticado con Parkinson, pero continuó actuando mientras pudo. Su última reunión con Black Sabbath fue el 5 de julio de 2025 en el concierto homenaje «Back to the Beginning» en Birmingham, donde compartió escenario con leyendas como Anthrax, Metallica y Guns N’ Roses.
