Con un show arrollador y una propuesta tan potente como comprometida, ELNUEVEONCE se consagró ganador de la final del Wacken Metal Battle Argentina 2025, celebrada el domingo 13 de abril en El Teatrito. El certamen, que convoca a lo mejor del metal emergente del país, les otorgó un lugar en la final internacional que se realizará los días 30 y 31 de julio en Alemania, en el legendario Wacken Open Air, el festival más importante del género a nivel mundial.
La instancia nacional reunió a ocho bandas de distintos puntos del país: Arpeghy, Descarnado, Eterna Agonía, Metaluria, Monte Palomar, MAR, Templo del Humo y los propios ELNUEVEONCE, que se destacaron con un set demoledor y una identidad musical marcada por el groove y el metalcore, con letras de fuerte contenido social.
En medio de ese envión, la banda se prepara para un nuevo hito: el domingo 27 de abril a las 19 h tocarán en Niceto Club, donde presentarán oficialmente su disco autotitulado y repasarán lo más destacado de su discografía. La fecha contará también con la participación de Génova y Hacia el Ocaso como bandas invitadas.
Formado por Nazareno Antolini (voz), Gonzalo Nicolás Gallo (guitarra), Franco Barroso (bajo) y Silvana Colagiovanni (batería), ELNUEVEONCE atraviesa una etapa de consolidación, proyección y energía. En plena euforia post-victoria y con los preparativos del show en marcha, charlamos con Naza y Fran para conocer más sobre este presente tan intenso.
Estuve escuchando el disco y después hablaremos de eso, pero primero, ¿están ensayando para Niceto, no?
ELNUEVEONCE: Sí, para Niceto y para todo lo que viene. Antes de eso, hacemos una listening party o fiesta de presentación oficial del disco con los fans, porque creemos mucho en el sentido comunitario de los shows y la presencialidad. Además, tocamos con The Amity Affliction en Uniclub y en Santa Fe. Así que los pasos previos al 27 son un ejercicio bastante movido.
Se podría decir que ensayan en vivo, entonces…
ELNUEVEONCE: Estamos ensayando un montón igual. Somos una banda que ensaya mucho, y ahora más con todos estos temas que estamos conociendo en formato de tocada y ensamble. Somos más bichos de estudio cuando componemos, pero ahora los temas los estamos descubriendo en vivo.
¿Cómo fue el proceso compositivo para este disco?
Fran: Primero nos sentamos a hablar de hacia dónde queríamos ir. El disco anterior fue más experimental y esta vez quisimos encauzar más la identidad de El Nueve Once. En el estudio, Gonzalo y yo hicimos mucho trabajo en los temas, viendo cómo darles ese estilo musical que queríamos. Naza, con todo su conocimiento musical, nos ayudó mucho en la dirección a seguir. Además, en la mitad del proceso perdimos a nuestro amigo Nikko Taranto dentro de la banda y eso afectó el ánimo y el sonido de los temas, que se volvieron más oscuros, casi como un duelo.
Las letras también tienen una gran variedad de temáticas. ¿Cómo fue ese trabajo?
Naza: Creo que desde «Amuletos» hasta este nuevo disco hubo una evolución. Al principio el post-hardcore que hacíamos trataba problemáticas más individuales, y ahora quisimos expandir el contraste entre lo personal y lo colectivo. Las letras hablan del vínculo con la pareja, los amigos, la relación con uno mismo, las redes sociales, la relación con el cuerpo, el deseo, la sexualidad, la muerte… Muchas temáticas que son parte de la coyuntura actual. También hay una gran cantidad de preguntas en el aire, porque vivimos en un cambio de paradigma donde la gente tiene más preguntas que certezas.
En este contexto de cambios y preguntas, ¿piensan en el compromiso social a la hora de escribir las letras?
Naza: Para mí, los artistas son un reflejo de su época. Absorben lo que pasa en su contexto y lo comunican a través de su arte. En nuestro caso, buscamos que la música y las letras transmitan emociones profundas y abran conversaciones incómodas. Sentimos que el ELNUEVEONCE es ese llamado de emergencia que tiene que atender la cultura, la música y el arte.
Leyendo comentarios en YouTube, cada persona tiene su tema favorito. Parece que cada canción genera un impacto distinto en la gente. ¿Eso fue intencional?
Fran: Sí, cada tema es un universo diferente. Hubo una selección cuidada de los temas, dejando muchos afuera. Cada uno tiene un clima específico y una función dentro del disco. Por ejemplo, «Primaveras» tiene una participación especial de Barbie (Williams) de Siamés porque queríamos ese timbre específico. Además, buscamos que las melodías sean memorables y que haya un gancho, un riff o una letra que se pegue.
En la actualidad, el metal compite con otros géneros, especialmente el urbano. ¿Cómo ven esa evolución?
Naza: Hoy las nuevas generaciones consumen muchos géneros distintos. Antes, si eras metalero, escuchabas solo metal. Ahora, alguien que escucha trap también puede escuchar metal sin problemas. Esto nos obliga a captar la atención rápidamente. Creo que el metal está volviendo a un enfoque más cancionero y menos hermético.
En los festivales también se ve esa apertura. Antes había rechazo entre los distintos públicos, ahora conviven más...
Fran: Totalmente. Antes, si en un festival de rock ponías una banda de pop, la gente la abucheaba. Ahora, si no te gusta, simplemente te vas. Creo que eso es un avance. Al mismo tiempo, como banda, nos desafía a conectar con un público más diverso y eso eleva nuestro nivel.
Tienen un sonido que combina varios géneros, lo que les permite llegar a distintos tipos de oyentes…
Naza: Sí, estamos en un punto intermedio. No somos ni un metal extremo ni una banda de rock convencional. Por eso captamos público de distintos estilos. La clave es la autenticidad y la energía en vivo. La gente, aunque no sea fan del metal, nos dice que le gusta la vibra de la banda. Nos comparan con Pantera, con Disturbed, y para nosotros es un orgullo.
Y además, hoy con internet, pueden llegar a cualquier parte del mundo…
Naza: Exacto. Hace poco un amigo me reenvió un audio de un grupo de WhatsApp en el que alguien en España decía «escuché el disco de esta banda y no hay una sola canción de relleno». Eso para nosotros es un orgullo, porque significa que cada tema tiene su peso y no hay desperdicio.
¿El desafío ahora es mantener ese nivel y seguir creciendo?
Fran: Sin dudas. Estamos en un momento clave y seguimos apostando a nuestra música con la misma pasión de siempre. Hace poco un amigo mío del barrio me reenvió un audio de un grupo que tiene con amigos que un chavo que estaba en España le dijo: «Escuché el disco de esta banda, me pareció un sugerido, se los paso, era ELNUEVEONCE, y el tipo decía no hay una sola canción de relleno». Y para mí eso fue un orgullo que alguien de afuera que yo no conozco nos diga «no hay una sola canción de relleno». Claro, porque lo que nosotros hacemos cuando empezamos a hacer una canción es tener muy poco tiempo para captar la atención de esa persona. Ya sea en el hook, cómo arranca la canción, cuánto tarda en ir al estribillo. Entonces, por ahí lo que nos pasaba con el metal hace 20 años atrás es que había algo del metal que te hacía estar a la expectativa de con qué te iba a sorprender el metal. En los estribillos, en los gritos, en el breakdown, en lo que fuera que quieras decirle, lo llamativo que tenía el género. Y creo que estamos volviendo a un metal más cancionero en el sentido, no lo digo por nosotros, sino en general, porque está buscando ser más mainstream el metal de nuevo. Inconscientemente o conscientemente, no lo digo a propósito, como que el rock, el metal, el hardcore, el punk, la música pesada está buscando ir de nuevo hacia el mainstream. Pues está aggiornando para mí a las nuevas generaciones. Que reclaman otra cosa, que piden otra cosa, ¿no? O que están acostumbrados. Nosotros consumíamos música, la teníamos que comprar y entonces la consumíamos, como te digo. En los 80 nos juntábamos a escuchar un disco o un CD, o un cassette grabando. Todavía le seguimos diciendo disco. Nosotros le decimos disco. Nosotros le decimos single. Es como la misma situación, pero nada, no hay más discos. Es así.
Naza: Sí, yo creo que… También por el estilo de música que hacemos que tampoco es ni un extremo metal ni tampoco estamos muy rockeros. Entonces estamos ahí en un híbrido donde quizás a veces es más positivo porque captamos gente de muchos lados y por otro lado quizás en un festi muy metalero no encajamos mucho y en el Quilmes estamos también ahí que bueno, yo igual eso siempre lo vi como algo positivo pero bueno, es algo difícil también. Yo por lo menos lo que opino como desafío en ese sentido es que la gente, como decías vos Daniel, está más abierta a escuchar distintos géneros y yo creo, como dirían la gente joven, que si les gusta la vibra de la banda, la energía que transmite, si sienten que es algo genuino, no importa si es Mujer Zebra, si es… No importa, yo creo que la gente está más abierta a escuchar distintos géneros y yo creo, como dirían la gente joven, si es… Si es… ¿Cómo se llama? Conociendo Rusia o si es el ELNUEVEONCE, si les copa la banda, te van a bancar. Y siento que ELNUEVEONCE, un poco acá nos voy a tirar flores, tiene como una energía en vivo muy especial que no tiene que ver solo con el metal sino como la actitud que tiene cada uno en la banda y eso a la gente, al público más grande del metal como al público más joven se acercan a decirnos. Pero los más grandes nos dicen que por ahí no sería una banda que escucharían en el día a día pero que les flashea lo que ven en vivo. Hay gente que me dijeron: «Me hacía acordar al cantante de Disturbed, me hacía acordar al de Pantera», para mí es un orgullo que me digan eso, que alguien flashee con cómo soy como frontman. Pero sobre todo porque nosotros como metaleros, aunque después haya gente que le parezca más o menos metal, primero somos fans, y entendemos también que el fan puede venir de distintos lados. Un fan que escucha urbano, un fan que viene del nu metal, un fan que viene del alternativo, del indie, y sentimos que el 9-11, sin querer queriendo, porque es la música que nos gusta hacer, está un poco en todo ese híbrido extraño.
El artista quiere hacer el sonido, como vos decías, las subcapas y todos los arreglos. Y claro, pero hay veces, yo lo pongo acá con los parlantes, pero el 90% de la gente lo escucha en un teléfono. Digo, ¿cómo lo ve el artista? Porque todo lo que gasta, el tiempo, el talento, después mucha gente lo perciba a través de un celular…
Fran: Yo acá voy a decir dos cosas. Una, es que aunque lo buscamos en un lugar super pro, después yo lo escucho con mis auriculares más sencillitos, chinos, bluetooth, y auriculares de cable. Y lo otro, recién mientras lo ibas diciendo me imaginaba en los Juegos Olímpicos cuando corren, la analogía esta o la comparación esta de basta con muy poco para hacer la diferencia. Aunque sea imperceptible, o para mucha gente sea imperceptible, esas capas están ahí y generan algo de dimensión que aunque no las entiendas del todo, o no la estés dilucidando todo lo que está pasando, hay algo que te genera confort. Todas las armonías, las voces, los coros, los sintes, el de fondo, las texturas, no es metal que es solamente un riff. Así que para mí esa es la diferencia que hace cuando ves la foto de los que corren en carrera por postas y es el pie que por medio pie gana uno de los olímpicos, es eso. No porque le estemos ganando a otra persona, es como la carrera contra nosotros mismos.

Fran: Esta es para vos, Naza.
Naza: Ok, pensé que ibas a contestar vos. Ok, yo creo que es una banda, un llamado de emergencia, artivismo. Es como imagino cuando se describe en frases cortas en el diccionario lo que puede ser algo.
